GEMS PLUS 8s

THE GEMS MANUAL
by David Poole

GEMS Plus 8s have turned out to be the most issue-ridden of the Classic Plus 8 line. There is a point where the sophistication of system designed to  manage EVERYTHING on a very complex, very heavy 4x4 truck requires too many comprises when fit to a ultra-light sports car. This created anomalies  that are beyond the capabilities of many owners. As well. because of the extraordinary popularity of the line, Morgan kept selling them LONG after the engine and the GEMS technology had been replaced by Land Rover. That being said, through the efforts of David Poole and Mark Adams and others,  the model can be transformed into a reliable friend and there is much that can be learned about all autos in that struggle for understanding and control. Sadly, because of the many variations and relatively recent LR usage (last used 20 years ago) parts are hard to find and expensive when  you do. Knowledge of the system  on the ground is, in most countries, rare. The system is not especially performant in stock form. But all these things  can be, with enthusiasm, fixed.
