"Which in your opinion are the three most famous Morgans?"

Thanks,

Lorne,

I would think that the three most famous Morgan cars (counting those known to exist today) would be considered to be:

1.    "Red Johnny" - Laird's racing three wheeler

2.    "TOK" - the Le Mans car, although its provenance is somewhat hazy

3.     "OUY200E" - Morris Owen's Plus 8 prototype

I am taking "famous" to be "most significant", or "most important." If one is only considering fame, then Mick Jagger's Plus 8 comes into the picture, as does Brigitte Bardot's 4/4.

Best of the season to you.

This is a matter of personal taste and interests, but I would say, in chronological order, rather than in order of importance:

1. Gwenda Hawkes' record braking three-wheeler,

2. the first (flat rad) 4/4 for saving the MMCs future

3. TOK 258 for winning its class at Le Mans in 1962 and bringing Morgans a lot of good publicity.

Dear Douglas H,

In answer to your question of which are the three most famous Morgans, I would reply H.F.S.,P.H.G and Charles Morgan are but I am sure that is not what you mean. So here we go with the wheeled variety

1-TOK 258,the 24 hours of Le Mans winner;

2. The boat tail J.A.P. Three Wheeler that used both the 761 cc and & 1100cc engines at Monthery to capture the fastest times ever in a three wheeler Morgan of 106.45 MPH and 115.56 MPH driven by Gwenda Stewart 1929/30. (She had over 42 speed records in trikes.);

3. The Plus-8 Drophead Automatic Coupe built for Jane Morgan.

They are my top three picks and I would also mention all of the Morgan prototypes, especially the prototype Plus-8 built by Morris Owens with wire wheels (the Dolly Parton version) owned by Bill Fink. Another Morgan that mus be mentioned is a 1935 MX-4 that made a 3,338 mile trip coast-to-Coast across America and has been driven constantly for the past 20 years and won a ton of Best-Of-Shows over those years. (Modesty prevents me from giving more specifics on this machine which has been a close firend and companion of the underoisgned for many years and great experiences.  There you have it Douglas.

THE ENVELOPE IS....AND THE WINNERS ARE !!!!!!!!

Best to you,
JHSII
