"I am building an engine to be used in an SS with 42DCOEs.  My old SS would wash down the wing with gasoline if driven on the street so I would like some advice as to a good camshaft to use.  This car will be primarily street driven with perhaps an occasional race outing.

Thanks

Lorne,

Greg Solow will be able to answer this question better than I can.

The best camshaft to use for a +4 SS is an Iskenderian camshaft. These camshafts are still available in the USA.

Greetings,

Why not use a Super Sport spec. cam, makes car more authentic !!

Dear Don,

If your 42 DCOEs were washing down the wing they were jetted wrong or the floats were too high/you do not need a cam to correct that/it is the tune of the carbs. If you do want a cam for street autocross look up the spects for either a TR D oe F cam and have one ground. they will give you a nice street/autocross/semi race situation with bottom end torque and a good RPM band.

Best to you, John H.Sheally II

We can supply you with a very nice 3/4 race cam that will pull form 1500 to 6000 rpm. It actually "comes on" at about 2800 rpm.  It will work with completely stock valve gear and springs.  With Webers it will idle smoothly at 800 rpm.  Peak power is about 5500 and should be around 120 with 87 mm liners, some head work, headers and 10.5:1 CR which will work well on the street with a properly modified head. We must have your cam to grind and recommend reconditioning your lifters after hardness testing.  The regrind is $180.00 on the cam, the lifters are $7.50 each to hardness test and reface, then parkerize.

My supersports had 42DCOEs also (standard from new), I also have a solid steel billet crank and roller rockers to make it smooth and "bullet proof" ! The cam I use is quite smooth...from Moss, it is a SPRINT 88 camshaft number TT 11051 Moss code T244 giving a timing of 42-86  78-32.

I also use ITG "Sox" filter covers on the Trumpets which I found improves the idling considerably as well as protecting the engine. I no longer get fuel down the wings as I did before the engine was rebuilt to the current level of tune.

I hope this helps!
