"Dear Sirs,

I have a 1968 plus 4 with wire wheels. What radial tires do you recommend?

Best regards,

Dear Fred,

This is a question of choice. I have always preferred a bias belted tire on a Morgan because of the nature of the Morgans suspension. The reason for that is the car handles better on bias and you also "feel" the car working better on bias. Perhaps most people/owners prefer radial tires because the radial is a more comfortable tire in ride comfort.

Today's tire market also favors the radial because of modern suspensions that are computer designed to both comfort and handling. However, if you want to really drive your Morgan at its' limits and be aggressive with it in the corners or "dirt track" it stay with the bias tire. If you favor the comfort go for the radial.

As to the brand or make of the tire there are some really fine selections to be had. You have to ask yourself if you want extreme mileage, if you want the best adhesion, do you drive in a wet climate, are you on dirt roads a lot and are you in snow and ice a lot ? All these things and more will determine what tire you by. These needs dictate what tread design you purchase as well as width and diameter and height.
You can make the car what you wish it to be in relation to your location and driving style.

With your Plus-4 Morgan I would use a one size over standard which would be a 165 x 15 and the rest is up to you as to your needs and how, where and what you wish from the car via it's tire selection. For the last 12 years I have kept my Morgans shod with the Hoosier Tire Brand as their selection of tires has always met my needs from applications to my trucks, to Morgans and even my 1936 Chevy dirt track car
driven on dirt tracks, paved tracks and the street.

The proper size is 165 x 15.  "S" rated tires (or even no speed rating) should be adequate for a Plus 4.  Brand name is up to the prejudice of the owner.  We have had good luck with Pirelli (sp?), Kleber (sp?) and Michelin.

All the best,

Gerry

If you can get them: GOODYEAR GT80 or GOODYEAR GRAND PRIX. These are what I have used on the Supersports and have found them to be the best.

Best wishes
