Mail Settings

Like any good pub, eMog normally has heavy traffic. There are many ways of dealing with this. You will have noticed that you have a number of options available to you on how and in what format you can receive the messages. These consist of the following;

a) "Email as received". You receive all emails as they are sent and the are attached. One gets through the volume by a quick scan of the subject lines and use of the delete key to "shape" the pub to your liking. You can also use your own emailer (such as Outlook Express) to filter eMog messages into a separate eMog folder so as to not mix these with your normal traffic;

b) "Digest" You can receive all messages at once in a single digest daily;

c)  "Index" You can choose to receive a list  of only the subject line once a day. If anything interests you, you enter the site and read the full messages on that subject.

d) "No mail" You may choose to NOT have the messages delivered at all and scan them at your leisure at the eMog site which also allows you to respond to any message read OR create new emails from the site itself "No mail". The images that are attached to the emails are also displayed at the site. This is a less more leisurely way of being an emog member.

For all the options above, simply log into the Interface (click the bar scene) with your email address and password, then in the Lyris List Manager interface go to My Account and ..

If you have questions while do something on the Interface, simply click the "?" sign on the page you need an explanation of.

Unsubscribe:

To unsubscribe from eMog permanently, simply log in with your email address and password, then in the Lyris List Manager interface go to My Forums and click on the unsubscribe button on the far right of the line containing eMog. That's it! Alternatively, you can simply turn the mail off and return to browse at your leisure or find solutions from the archives.

Newsgroups settings:

You can receive all the eMog messages as if it were a newsgroups in Outlook Express (or other newsreaders).

In Outlook Express;

1. go to Tools/Accounts, then Add News.
2. Type your name (how you would like it to appear) into the box - Click Next

4. Type: lyris.dundee.net into the server box - Click: My news server requires me to log on so a tick appears - Click Next
5. Your account name is your email address (again)
6. Your password is your eMog password
7. You probably do want Outlook Express to remember your password
8. You don't want to use SPA - Click Next

Once this is set up, you should find a lyris.dundee.net section in your Outlook Express folder list.

- Select that lyris.dundee.net from the folder list
a. Click Newsgroups - This will bring up a list of newsgroups that Dundee run
b. Select eMog - Click the "subscribe" button - Click OK
c. Hit the Synchronize Account button .... this will download your message HEADERS into a separate part of Outlook Express.... When you click on a message, it will download it (if it hasn't already done so.)
You can use the news server irrespective of what your "get messages delivered by email" settings are, so you may prefer to turn mail delivery OFF if you end up preferring the news format....

INTERNET EXPLORER

Almost all of the problems we have experienced with the eMog web interface access stem from the use of IE (Internet Explorer. Messages asking "cookies to be enabled" or other issues can happen.

Here are some fixes we've found with IE versions 5.5 and versions 6. (You can find out which version you have by clicking "Help" at the top or your Internet Explorer screen, and then click "About Internet Explorer" and the version you are using will be indicated.

With both versions, you can simply lower your Security level by setting it to Medium Low. That will work. HOWEVER, please try the methods below first as they allow you to leave your security level  as high as you wish.

IE VERSION 5.5

1: Tools / Internet Options
2: Security tab
3: Select "Trusted Sites" icon
4: Click the "Sites" button below the Trusted Sites icon
5: type "https://lyris.dundee.net" into the box
6: click the "Add" button
7: "OK" everything

IE VERSION 6 & 7

Part 1:

1: Tools / Internet Options
2: Security tab
3: Select "Trusted Sites" icon
4: Click the "Sites" button below the Trusted Sites icon
5: type "https://lyris.dundee.net" into the box
6: click the "Add" button
7: "OK" everything

You should now see "lyris.dundee.net" in the "Web sites" thing.

Part 2:

1: Tools / Internet Options
2: Privacy tab
3: Click the "Edit" button in the "Web sites" section
4: type "lyris.dundee.net" into the box
5: Click the "Allow" button
6: "OK" everything

SAFARI

Safari has the same issue as Internet Explorer (unless you have imported you old browser settings when you setup Safari. The cure is the same..just placed in a difference section of the Safari browser;

1.  "Edit" at the top left of the SAfari screen

2, Choose "Preferences"

3. Then click "Advanced"

4. Then click "Proxies: Change settings"

5. Then Click "Security"

6. Then choose the "Trusted Sites" icon

7. Then lick the "Sites" tab

8. Add https://lyris.dundee.net as a trusted site into the box where it states Add this web site to the Zone

9. Click add.

Subject Matter

The eMog Pub is not a public vehicle for advertising. It is a high speed private service and is formatted to run by friends.  Any changes will be decided upon by the group moderators after a reasonable group consensus has been determined.

Though we expect most subjects to be Morgan related, this is NOT a rule. Anything of interest to the group would be welcome. If an issue becomes one specific to yourself and one other, than perhaps it would be wiser to continue it off the group (OOG).

Protocol

All groups whether internet or "real world" have certain standards of behaviour considered appropriate. These standards can vary and we make no judgement on whether one or another is good, better, best. Though this list server has the ability to refuse (bounce) messages that contain pre-dictated words or expressions, this function is NOT being used at the moment. We shall assume that the words and expressions used within the group shall be those one would expect to find in any social group of mixed company.

Confrontations remain within the realm of a courteous exchange. Though mild confrontations can produce some great emails and should not, in principle, be banned, it is sometimes wise to have a friend contact the combatants off group to help keep tempers soothed and the dialogue appropriate.

Cross-posting

Cross-posting is the copying and posting of chosen snippets of a current and ongoing eMog discussion from emog to another forum. Many years of experince has taught us that this causes misunderstanding, often anger and damage to both groups. Effectively, the cross-poster disenfrancizes members of both groups. We strongly discourage the practice and ask that particpants respect that and their co-participants in all forums.

Virus Protocol

We have had some experience with emails about Viruses etc. If you have anything to communicate on that subject, we  have decided that it is best you send your email to one of the eMog Moderators at help@emog.com

Images & Attachments

We have decided that eMog emails will not accept an attachment larger than 100k. The system will automatically reject and image larger than this but the Moderators remain available with image compressing and formatting should you wish. It will be our pleasure to help. It is customary when attaching and image or other attachment to include this in the text of the email with the words IMAGE ATTACHED.

To post larger images, please look to the eMogger galleries at https://www.gomog.com/bin/photos/index.pl  where space and assistance have been reserved for eMog participants by the Galleries Director.

Resizing Images for eMog

Using Photoshop, first size it. ("image"..then "image size") Make is no more than 375-400 pixels high as that is normally the highest you can see on a single browser screen.

The result is small and distresses people so click "view" and then "fit on screen". (smile)

Now click "file", then "save for web" and choose a resolution that results in a file size of no more than 75k.

That's it...aside from the fancy stuff.
